hardwoods

KnottyAlderFlyerThumbnailWithTextgenuine American hardwood

We only offer the real thing – no veneers over plywood or particleboard cores, no faux woods or plastics, and no imports. Our hardwood is responsibly harvested here in the USA from private sustainable forests. It is cured in-house at the O'Hair facility in Texas with a months-long multi-stage process for just the right balance of strength and moisture content. It is then prepped and bonded using a special book-matched process for strength and beauty. It is then milled, sanded, assembled and finished – and our shutters are built-to-order and not just pulled off some warehouse shelf.

Drawing on three quarters of a century of experience and four generations of hands-on expertise by the O'Hair family, our American hardwood shutters are the very best you can buy.

Knotty alder is a conifer with a light, warm hue and a distinctive character featuring just enough of an irregular knot pattern to make it a very interesting choice. It is great for stains as well as a clear finish.

why these three species?

We only offer the real thing – solid, bookmatched American hardwood from O'Hair Shutters™. O'Hair does not import cheap exotic laminate hardwood and glue it to a plywood core and they certainly do not take printed plastic and glue it to flimsy particleboard blanks. Frankly, if other manufacturers used solid hardwood like we do, their shutters would cost two to three times as much as ours. The ideal solution for beauty and variety is to use a representative range of solid hardwood and a range of carefully selected stains rather than a half-dozen species of thin veneer.

AllStainSwatches456x156what's the advantage?

Our carefully selected species offer a range of grain that is ideal for matching other hardwoods. Whether you choose from our StainSelects™ colors, select from a popular stain deck, or if we create a custom-matched stain prepared specifically to match your décor, you will be delighted with the beauty of your new shutters.
